i heart switchfoot

i love switchfoot. Wait, no I f-ing love switchfoot! You might be wondering why, I, of all people, love switchfoot. You might be saying, “Hey, wait a minute, TJ, you think outside the box, you don’t follow the crowd, your relevant and trendy! Why do you like switchfoot?!” Is it just because if your a Christian you HAVE to like switchfoot? Well, yes that plays a part, but my reason for LOVING switchfoot runs far deeper than that. Allow me to explain:

The lead singer of switchfoot  (Jon Foreman) has an amazing voice. Different lead singers voices have different impacts on you. The lead screamer from underoath makes me want to hit something. The lead singer of Death Cab makes me depressed in a good way. Well you may be asking, what does the lead singer of Switchfoot make you feel. Good question. In a word: NOSTALGIA. Nostalgia? I know that it doesn’t make sense to you now, but I’ll feed you baby birds. Jon Foreman is really just an alias, a secret identity. Jon Foreman isn’t really Jon Foreman, he is this guy:

Kermit

Thats right. The lead singer of switchfoot is actually kermit the frog. You see, back in the day when Kermit was in his prime on the Muppets he began to get a bad rep. It was all too cliche, the talking green frog that was dating a sow. No, things needed to change in order for him to stay in the public eye, in fact, drastic changes were needed. And so he hatched the perfect plan…

The year was 1996. And just as it is today, it really takes not a lot of talent to start a christian band. So thats exactly what kermit did. He disguised himself as a white surfer dude and found other surfer dudes. They made music. And they recorded music. Christians everywhere went nuts. Chem6a was their first single. But Kermit aka Jon Foreman was 5 steps ahead of the game. While establishing their reign in the Christian music empire, he was not content to publish music for high school youth group trips. No, he was waiting for the day when he would go mainstream. This happened in 2002 when 4 of their songs made it into the sappy “A Walk to Remember”. In 2003 they released their hit album “A Beautiful Letdown”. Alas, kermit was reborn and once again in the spotlight.

So, now you know the complete story of how kermit went from dating a pig to emo/inspirational surfer dude. And now you know why I heart switchfoot.

THE END.
